Dating For Baby Boomers - 7 Tips On Introducing A New Man To Your Family

No Comment - Post a comment

Dating a new man should be exciting and fun. When you both have children from previous marriages, it can end up a disaster. Here are 7 tips on what to do before you get too involved with a new guy:....

* Talk to your children in advance and let them know you are starting to date. It is not good for this to be a surprise when you tell them you are dating someone new.

* Date your new man for a few weeks or even a couple of months before arranging for the children to meet. If you are not interested in this man seriously, it may be a waste of everyone's time for all of you to meet.

* When you do bring the two families together to meet for the first time, find a place that will be comfortable for everyone. It is best to avoid either of your homes or a small restaurant where people will be forced to sit close together. Instead, look for a place that has enough space for people to come and go as necessary. A large restaurant or a park is a much better choice.

* If one of the children does not want to go, do not force them. Tell them that you respect their feelings and then find somewhere safe for them to go during that time.

* Allow the introductions to unfold naturally. Let everyone have time to feel out the situation and decide for themselves what they think about the whole thing.

* When you get back home allow your family to be open and honest about the meeting. If they did not like someone or something that happened, encourage them to discuss it openly. If one of your children does not say anything, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. People need time to adjust to new situations.

* Let some time pass before getting everyone together again. If it is someone else's idea besides yours, that is a good thing.

These 7 tips will get you off to a good start if you are just starting to date a new man.

Dating Over 40 Successfully - How To Get What You Want From Dating

No Comment - Post a comment

Are you still playing the field but want a monogamous relationship? With the number of divorced women over forty, you may think they don't want to be married, or they don't want monogamous, but the reality is they don't want demanding irrational relationships that don't last. And, SURPRISE, men over forty want the same thing.

Over forty relationships will be successful with mature, capable individuals who want to share life together and each have viable lives of their own. Are you ready for some solid sound advice on meeting your one and only over 40?

1. Be real

Nobody expects you to be perfect. You can actually have a few personality flaws, a belly, or a butt and your over 40 partner will not only accept you with it, but love you for it. If you're not perfect, they can be real too.

2. Don't compete

Who wants competition? What ever happened to just being comfortable within your own skin? Can you honestly say you want to compete with Barbie or Ken? If you're comfortable with who you are then your date can just relax and enjoy the evening without feeling the need to compete with who you want to be...

3. Know what you want

If you agree to a date with a city boy knowing nothing less than Farmer John Brown will satisfy you, you've got a problem from the beginning. Select people you have something in common with, but acknowledge that you don't have to be joined at the hip.

4. Accept independence

Find some mutual interests, but understand that you both have a past and you both have a future. Be willing to share the future but realize you can't and won't want to share everything. Accept the differences as benefits and appreciate your time alone or with friends too.

5. Quality

After you reach 40 you're allowed to expect quality from the person on the other side of the table. You should be able to carry a conversation, understand basic concepts, and comprehend current events. Intelligence and Values are part of the package, if you don't have them, you won't obtain them in the future.

6. Past

You both have a past, you have children, family, and friends, and you should be able to mutually share those without having to compete over whose family is better, or loves them more. You just have them, and you share them. Period.

7. Religion, Politics, and Sex

Yes, dear, these are topics of conversation and you're expected to participate as a mature adult with an opinion, not a temper tantrum. If you can't discuss these topics and keep a cool head, you might want to find out why and have that part of your anatomy surgically removed.

Dating Advice for Boomer Women - Give Cupid a Hand to Find Love

2 comments - Post a comment

With Valentine's Day on the horizon, thoughts about finding a sweetheart pop into almost every single woman's mind. As a dating coach, so many clients ask me where the best places are to meet men. Surprisingly, this is often not the first step on the road to finding love. I gingerly explain that while it may seem knowing the hot spots is the answer to their single circumstance, that may not be the whole truth.

There is a step before meeting prospects that is actually more important. The question becomes not where to meet new men, but instead - WHO are you when you meet them?

In other words, what is your attitude and mindset when you look for love? Too frequently women go out with the scars of past hurt and ex lovers written all over them. Perhaps you've had a run of bad dates or you haven't been out in years. If that's true, there are three basic areas that could use attention to be the most attractive you can be....

1) Are You Emotionally Available?

- When you carry a torch for a lost love, or remain angry from love gone wrong, this drags your energy and attitude down. You cannot be your most alluring when carrying baggage. Here are a few ways to check that baggage and free yourself up for a new relationship:

- Light a candle and say a prayer. Asking for help from a higher power can be such a blessing and support for releasing history. Ask to let go of what no longer serves you and sever any remaining emotional ties.

- Visualize removing any imaginary strings of attachment that might still be connecting you to a past love. Watch these strings dissolve or cut yourself loose. Then imagine healing the places on your body where the attachments occurred.

Take advantage of traditional therapy to facilitate the letting go process. Another approach is to work with an energy healer (Reiki, aromatherapy, etc.) to release a past love.

2) Do You See Yourself as Someone Who Dates?

A woman who dates sees herself as attractive to the opposite sex. She feels confident that she'll be noticed and comfortable when approached by men. Her wardrobe includes alluring clothes that help her look and feel her best. What's in your closet and how would you respond if a man walked over to strike up a conversation? If you've got a few good outfits and handle attention well, you're all set.

3) Can You Flirt with Style and Enjoy it for What it Is?

Flirting is an art that can be easily learned. Basic elements include, brief eye-contact, followed by a smile, before gracefully looking away. Using this simple tip can change your social karma dramatically. Clients who have tried this were thrilled with the results! Why? Because many women have forgotten the fundamentals of simply being friendly.

Maybe it's all the bad news on TV or perhaps people are just too busy to bother being friendly. Whatever the reason, when you catch a man's eye, smile and act friendly, you in essence let him know you are safe to approach. Believe it or not, most men don't like being rejected.

Most of all, the point of flirting is to have fun! When you smile at a man, you acknowledge him and that makes you both feel good. It's flattering and who doesn't enjoy a little flattery? Flirting works best without an agenda because then you're relaxed and having fun. If you're trying to get someone's attention, your efforts aren't likely to seem natural.

During February, the month dedicated to love, why not take stock of these three areas and put them to work for you? Give Cupid a helping hand and make his job of connecting you with someone special a little easier. If you're emotionally available, think of yourself as an alluring person (and do something to make it so) and know how to flirt, you're ready to find love. Get out there to connect with the countless fabulous men who are waiting to meet a wonderful woman like you.
